Indicio Proven® has taken top placement in the Fraud Prevention category of Juniper Research’s 2026 Future Digital Awards, winning Platinum for its use of Verifiable Credentials to prevent identity fraud. Indicio’s platform turns authenticated biometrics and documents into reusable digital credentials that carry their own cryptographic proof, so they can be verified anywhere, instantly. This gives banks, enterprises, and governments a seamless approach to authentication and KYC, one built to counter the threats now driving fraud losses: generative-AI deepfakes, synthetic identity fraud, and credential theft.
SEATTLE, June 24, 2026 — Today, Indicio was named a Platinum winner in Juniper Research’s 2026 Future Digital Awards for Fintech & Payments, taking the top placement in fraud prevention for Indicio Proven®, its verifiable digital identity platform.
Why generative AI broke conventional fraud prevention
The fraud prevention category honors the innovators combating payments fraud and the technologies protecting transactions, merchants, and consumers in an increasingly fraught threat environment. Generative AI has brought a new level of sophistication to identity fraud: Deepfakes are able to convincingly pass video and voice checks; synthetic identities that mix real and fake data are used to open accounts; and stolen passwords can be used to generate multiple impersonations. Juniper Research estimates the cost of identity fraud to financial institutions will rise to over $58 billion by 2030.
How verifiable credentials stop the fraud at the source
While most fraud tools try to catch fakes after they arrive by assessing customer behavior and scanning for anomalies, Indicio Proven enables organizations to simply bypass these threats by using Verifiable Credential technology. A bank uses Indicio Proven to give a customer a secure credential that includes their biometric data, like a face scan or fingerprint. The customer stores this in a digital wallet. When the customer presents this credential, the bank can instantly check two things: that the credential is real and hasn’t been tampered with, and that the biometric inside it matches the person standing there live. If the face, fingerprint, iris, or voice doesn’t match, the credential fails. AI can’t forge or fake the cryptography used to make all this data verifiable.
“This award recognizes that Verifiable Credentials are a transformational technology for managing identity authentication,” said Heather Dahl, CEO of Indicio. “And it’s not just because they remove the vulnerabilities in IDV that allow deepfake and synthetic identity fraud. Verifiable Credentials enable a reusable proof to travel with a person across any system. They can prove who they are, they can share all kinds of instantly provable data. This makes them more flexible and powerful than passkeys or other identity fraud solutions. We give our customers both a way to verify who they are dealing with in real time, a trust layer for sharing data by consent, and a solid foundation for what comes next — managing identity in a post-quantum universe.”
