Cryptographic proof of
a real person
An authenticated biometric is a biometric verified against an authenticated government identity document and bound to its rightful owner inside a Verifiable Credential. It’s the signature feature of Indicio Proven: the strongest, most portable identity assurance available, and a simple way to prove you’re not a deepfake.

The concept
What are authenticated biometrics?
Authenticated biometrics are biometric measurements — a face, fingerprint, iris, or voice — proven authentic in two ways at once: matched to a live person through a liveness check, and matched to a government identity document whose authenticity has been independently verified. The result is then digitally signed inside a Verifiable Credential, so it can be proven later without ever calling back to a stored copy.
Liveness and face-mapping
A live capture confirms a real, present person and maps that face to the photo carried on or in the government document, defeating presentation and injection attacks.
Authenticated document
The document itself is separately validated as genuine and issued by a real authority, so the biometric is anchored to a trusted, real-world identity and not just a face.
How it works
From a document and a face to a
portable cryptographic proof
Authentication happens once, up front. After that, the authenticated biometric travels with its owner and can be verified anywhere, instantly, and without a centralized copy to call back to.
Validate the document
An IDV service confirms the government ID is a genuine, authentic document, the trusted anchor for everything that follows.
Liveness and face-map
A liveness video proves a real, present person and maps their face to the biometric carried on or in the document.
Bind into a credential
Indicio packages the authenticated biometric as a digitally signed template in a Verifiable Credential, with the personal data from the document. It can’t be altered, faked, or forged.
Verify without storing
Anyone can verify the issuer and data cryptographically, with no callback to a central biometric database.
Two pathways, one credential
The right root of trust for the use case
How a document is authenticated depends on the domain. Indicio is vendor-agnostic at the document and biometrics layer, so the authenticated biometric that comes out the other side is the same trusted, portable credential either way.
Verified against the ICAO PKD
For travel, our IDV service, such as Regula, checks the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) to cryptographically verify the authenticity of the passport issuer, the gold standard for cross-border identity.
PKD verification is available for travel services and purposes only.
