Seamless authentication with Verifiable Credentials from Indicio Proven for a secure holiday and a seamless 2026. Happy Holidays from Indicio!

“You’d think being an elf at Santa’s Workshop would mean you’d never fall for a fake Santa Claus,” said Pepper Minstix, Head of Security at Santa’s Workshop, in a recent zoom call with Indicio. “But you take a highly-focused staff, intense toy production schedules, and the ease of procuring Santa costumes — realistic beards, belly prosthetics — and elves, like people, default to trusting without verifying.”

“Verifiable Credentials take the stress out of implementing zero-trust security. No one wants to ask Santa for proof he’s real, or poke his belly to see if it wobbles and make, what is, essentially, a subjective call. With a Verifiable Credential no elf has to. We have cryptographic proof it’s Santa. Authenticated voice biometrics mean it’s an instant “ho-ho-yes” or “ho-ho-no.”

“Ho-ho-ho” — Santa speaks into the workshop intercom while simultaneously presenting an authenticated biometric of his voice for instant cryptographic comparison. No biometric storage needed!

Asked whether Santa Claus security  is affected by the rise in AI, Minstrix said it is an issue — mostly around the naughty or nice list.

“As you can imagine, no-one wants to be on Santa’s naughty list, so we have to be especially vigilant when it comes to accessing this highly sensitive document. And then there are the subversives — the Grinch and Krampus — who want to disrupt holiday cheer.”

The threat vectors are systems access, where AI is being used to brute force passwords, or support synthetic elf fraud — and, not least, deepfake Santas trying to access the system. There are fake Santas everywhere.”

“This is where Verifiable Credentials have transformed security. You wouldn’t believe how many elves had ‘I love Santa Claus’ as their password when we used centralized systems. Now, no more passwords, just instant seamless authentication. When you don’t have to store personal data for identity verification, it can’t be stolen, right?”

Santa’s Workshop is now using Verifiable Credentials for seamless access to all systems, removing centralized data risks, and protecting against synthetic elf fraud and deepfakes.

“We started with a simple use case, ’Know It’s Santa,’” said Minstrix — “and then expanded to all our systems access and identity authentication. The next step is to use Verifiable Credentials to manage our Artificial Elf Intelligence. Like any organization, we’re always looking for ways to make the job easier and more efficient, and with Verifiable Credentials, we can start this digital transformation from a position of secure authentication.”

“Digitally-native elves,” Minstrix added,  “are not that much different from people — they expect seamless experiences. I guess you could say Verifiable Credentials are the gift that keeps on giving.”
