Verifiable Credentials provide next-gen identity verification, biometric authentication and document validation for customer pre-authorization and seamless experiences.

Switching digital identity systems raises the specter of long and complex technical roadmaps and uncertain timelines.
But Verifiable Credentials for decentralized digital identity are different. They are a layer you can add to your existing systems, flick a switch, and immediately get going adding verifiable digital identity to any use case you chose. This means you can deploy an identity solution in days rather than months and start seeing value right away.
Take customer-facing processes that depend on verifying documents and personal data, such as checking into a hotel.
Anyone who has stood in line to get their room keys after a long flight knows how quickly things can fall apart when a problem with a document arises. This could be a missing passport, a broken photocopy machine, or an unexpected requirement. The desk agent has to stop, problem solve, and figure out a workaround to complete the process. Time ticks. Stress rises. The line grows. And even when the problem isn’t necessarily the hotel’s fault, the frustration is usually directed at the agent and the brand.
No one wants this, especially not the growing pool of digitally-native consumers who expect frictionless experiences.
Authenticated biometrics = preauthorization = seamless authentication
This is where Verifiable Credentials deliver the seamless experience that people expect and the efficiency that businesses want.
For example, a hotel can ask a customer to submit their identity information at the time they book when they pay to book their room. The customer scans their passport or other required documents, with their mobile phone, using digital wallet software. The software also asks them to perform a liveness check.
They can then send the information directly to the hotel, which authenticates the document and compares the image of the person on the document with the liveness check (with a passport, it compares the biometric image held on the passport chip).
Once validated, this information is sent back to the customer in the form of a tamper-proof Verifiable Credential, which they store in their digital wallet. This verifiable identity is linked to their booking.
So when the customer shows up to check-in, all they need to do is present the necessary Verifiable Credential(s) simply by scanning a QR code. The hotel uses verifier software that uses cryptography to confirm the origin of the credential and that the information has not been altered. Verifiable Credentials can’t be shared or stolen, so that’s it. No unexpected document requirements, no fumbling with documents, no time consuming manual review. Just instant authentication. All that’s left is collecting your key.
And because authenticated biometrics are held within the credential, matching the credential holder to the credential, the entire process can be automated, so the hotel’s AI-powered services can easily prove their identities and that they aren’t a deepfake.
