This is the first of a four-part series where we describe the strengths of Hyperledger Indy, the most mature type of network for decentralized identity. Part one: How combining Hyperledger Indy with an open source Mediator Agent is the key to robust connection
By Kim Ebert
Identity has to be mobile. It makes no sense to talk about verifying and sharing data if you can’t do either through a mobile device. But this simple requirement can be a technical challenge when, as with mobile devices, IP addresses aren’t permanent.
This is why you need a Mediator Agent. A Mediator Agent provides a cloud-based connection point that will hold and receive messages for Mobile Agents.
Given how critical mediation is to decentralized identity adoption, Indicio built on the work of the open-source community to make mediation interoperable and vendor agnostic. We developed a robust Mediator Agent and contributed it to Aries Cloud Agent Python (ACA-Py) and the Aries Toolbox.
As a result, mediation can be managed and debugged through ACA-Py’s built-in Admin REST API.
But we also host a public version on the Indicio Network, our Hyperledger Indy-based global network for decentralized identity.
Use the Indicio’s free hosted Mediator Agent for testing
If you’re building solutions that need a Mediator Agent, you can use Indicio’s hosted version for testing, development, and demonstrations.
This will shorten the time to develop proof-of-concept and pilot solutions and help with ensuring interoperability. You can access the Indicio-hosted Public Test Mediator Agent here.
We also run a Mediator Agent Training workshop.
Mediation doesn’t have to be a struggle
We know mediation is a concern, and we know some have struggled with it; but it’s a problem that has been solved. The Hyperledger Aries Mediator Agent works—try it, use it, and if you have any questions, we’re here to help.
