Indicio will upgrade Hyperledger Indy to support “did:indy” DID Method Specification, which will enable greater interoperability across Indy-based networks

Indicio has won the BC Gov “Code With Us” Challenge to develop the did:indy DID Method for the Hyperledger Indy project, the open source project housed at the Hyperledger Foundation that provides tools, libraries, and reusable components for providing digital identities rooted on blockchains or other distributed ledger.
The challenge has two goals. The first is to expand the types of content that can be written to DIDDocs, documents that instruct users on which ledger they need to find and read so that they can use verifiable credentials.
Second, the new method will align Hyperledger Indy with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Decentralized Identifier (DID) Specification. Most of Hyperledger Indy’s development occurred prior to the completion of the standard DID Specification by the W3C and, as a result, identifiers written to one network are currently not resolvable on other networks. A new did:indy DID Method will fix that and make it easier for decentralized identity products and services to interoperate across different Indy networks.

Winning the challenge comes as Indico is about to kick off a series of Hyperledger Community Training Workshops in using the Hyperledger Aries codebases to design and develop decentralized identity solutions. Indicio has made training on all aspects of decentralized identity a key part of its mission and product offerings.
